CBSA Announcement of Temporary Suspension Period

We would like to inform you of a recent update from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). Please be advised of the following:

Temporary Suspension of Certain Adjustments: The CBSA has announced a temporary suspension period for the submission of certain adjustments in preparation of CARM coming into effect October 21, 2024. Specifically, from September 1 to October 20, 2024, trade chain partners and importers are requested to hold off on submitting:

  • Single B2 adjustments
  • Blanket B2 adjustments
  • Voluntary disclosure authorization requests

Discretionary Penalty Application: Should your 90-day obligation to reassess under section 32.2 of the Customs Act fall within the aforementioned dates, the CBSA intends to exercise discretion regarding the application of penalties.

Exceptions to the Notice: It is important to note that this suspension does not extend to:

  • Appeal submissions under section 60 of the Customs Act
  • Transactions approaching the two-month expiry mark, for which adjustments should continue to be submitted as per standard procedures.
