Final list of steel and aluminum products from China that will be subject to a 25 per cent surtax
The federal government will apply a 25 per cent surtax on imports of steel and aluminum products from China, effective October 22, 2024. The surtax will not apply to Chinese goods that are in transit to Canada on the day on which this surtax comes into force.
This surtax will apply to goods originating from China, which shall be considered as those goods eligible to be marked as a good of China in accordance with the Determination of Country of Origin for the Purpose of Marking Goods (Non-CUSMA Countries) Regulations. Additional details on administration of the surtax will be published on the Canada Border Services Agency website prior to implementation: Customs Notices (cbsa-asfc.gc.ca).
The list of goods subject to the surtax are those listed below. Descriptions are included for illustrative purposes, with the scope established by the tariff item in column 1. For precise descriptions, please refer to the Schedule to Canada’s Customs Tariff.
