Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that the Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Ontario and Michigan is expected to open at the end of the week, calling it positive news and a strong symbol of co‑operation between Canada and the United States. The 2.5-kilometre bridge, costing approximately $4 billion, was funded entirely by Canada and built with contributions from both Canadian and American workers and materials. The bridge will be operated by the Canadian Crown corporation, Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, and will be overseen by The International Authority, which is comprised of an equal number of representatives from both Canada and Michigan.

The bridge-build project has supported thousands of jobs and is expected to improve traffic flow by directly linking Highway 401 on the Canadian side to Interstate 75 in the United States, easing congestion at other crossings.
